The hike pays homage to the compatriot Matija Vertovec who was the first Slovenian wine expert. It weaves through the villages and vineyards of the hills around Vipava. The undemanding hike takes around 5 hours to finish. Hikers will meet from 7.00 to 9.00 am under the oak tree before the village of Ustje.
The organised group hike in the Vipava Valley takes visitors through sloping vineyards and the Valley’s villages, where locals are waiting to serve up a traditional homemade delicacy. This traditional hike traverses the area where the famous priest and author Matija Vertovec lived and worked, teaching others how to make wine. After leaving Ustje and traveling through Dolenje, Planina is the next destination then through Šmarje to the starting point in Ustje. This hike takes around 5 hours.
