Vilenica festival

Vilenica International Literary Festival is one of the most prestigious international literary festivals in Europe, organized annually by the Slovene Writers' Association.

The festival brings together poets, novelists, playwrights, and essayists, with a particular focus on authors and literary creativity from the wider Central European region.

This year’s theme of the Vilenica International Literary Festival is The Fluidity of Identities. It is a broad concept that expands the boundaries of literary creation into the far-reaching dimensions of multiple forms of expression, beyond the national identities that are at the heart of this year’s festival.

In today’s globalized world, national borders are becoming increasingly blurred, shifting, and dissolving. The universal history of migration is being intensified by phenomena such as globalization, the Erasmus generation, and the renewed mobility of the post-pandemic era. Movement is further accelerated by wars, tragedies, and forced displacement. People have always migrated, carrying their languages with them—often serving as the last refuge of a homeland lost to exiled writers.

The 41st edition of the Vilenica International Literary Festival thus draws inspiration from the philosophy of postmodernism and post-structuralism developed by Jacques Derrida.
