Gioachino Rossini: The Barber of Seville

Teatro La Fenice is one of the world’s most renowned opera houses and a symbol of the Italian bel canto tradition. With Gioachino Rossini’s masterpiece The Barber of Seville, its ensemble comes to Ljubljana to present the witty story of Figaro, the lovestruck Count Almaviva, and the clever Rosina. Filled with memorable melodies, humour, and lively rhythm, the opera remains a timeless favourite of the operatic repertoire.

In the world of opera, Venice’s Gran Teatro La Fenice has been one of the most recognisable symbols of musical-dramatic art for centuries. Its own dramatic history, punctuated by turbulent ownership disputes, has been particularly marked by three devastating fires. Even the name of the theatre derives from its “fiery” history, since fenice is the Italian word for phoenix, the mythical bird that rises from its own ashes.
