Adriatic Irredentism

Discussion on Slovenian-Italian relations in the North Adriatic area.

In 1912, one of the most important historical studies on Slovenian-Italian relations in the North Adriatic area was published by the Italian historian and publicist Angelo Vivante, entitled Irredentismo adriatico: contributo alla discussione sui rapporti austro-italiani (Firenze: Libreria della voce). Its Slovenian translation, Jadranski iredentizem (Adriatic Irredentism), was published as late as in 2024 (Komen: Art), although it was already prepared 75 years before by Alojz Rebula and published in a feuilleton between May and September 1949 in the Primorski dnevnik newspaper. The discussion will focus on both the content and the relevance of the book, as well as the interesting discovery of the translation.

Participants: Igor Tuta (editor, publicist), Štefan Čok (National and Study Library, Department of History and Ethnography, Trieste), Petra Svoljšak (ZRC SAZU).
