Saltworkers’ Festival

The Solinarski praznik is a springtime event in Piran that presents the tradition of salt-making. The event is intended for all generations and brings together cultural heritage, the natural environment of the salt pans, and local cuisine.

A group of people in traditional costumes and wide-brimmed hats dance in a lively town square. Colorful buildings and onlookers under umbrellas set the vibrant scene.

The Solinarski praznik, held on the feast of St. George, is a unique ethnological and cultural event celebrating the rich heritage of salt-making in Piran. Every April, the people of Piran proudly revive the town’s history, salt-making traditions, and sustainable practices preserved to this day. The event is suitable for all generations, from children to adults, offering hands-on workshops, insights into the ecology of the salt pans, and opportunities to try traditional salt-making tools.
