Nika Erjavec: Brstenje (Sprouting)

“Brstenje” (Sprouting) by artist Nika Erjavec extends from the city’s streetlights, using light effects to portray the spring awakening of nature, the city, and its people.

A black-and-white city square at night with colorful digital flowers growing from streetlights, casting a whimsical and surreal atmosphere.

Light elements in the form of stems, shoots, buds, and blossoms create a dynamic composition that evokes the process of growth and transformation.

The installation invites us to pause and observe the gentle changes taking place both in nature and within ourselves - that quiet energy awakening after the stillness of winter. The colors and patterns used by the artist are inspired by the world as seen by pollinators - bees, butterflies, and other insects , who perceive parts of the light spectrum invisible to the human eye. In doing so, the installation opens a window into the hidden world of nature and reminds us how diverse and delicate life around us truly is.

As night falls, concealed light sources turn on and the plant motifs come to life, creating the impression of a living, pulsating organism that unites light, space, and movement.

On Stritarjeva street, five sculptural objects of various shapes and sizes will be displayed, emphasizing the natural and organic character of the artwork. “Brstenje” (Sprouting) heralds the arrival of spring in the city and symbolically connects light, nature, and humanity - a reminder that even in an urban environment, life continually awakens anew.
