Fantastic Primordial Worlds of Štefan Planinc and Slovenian Surrealism – Exhibition

Štefan Planinc (1925–2017), regarded as the most consistent Slovenian surrealist, created a remarkable body of work infused with fantasy, dreamscapes and the subconscious. A respected professor at the Academy of Fine Arts, recipient of the prestigious Jakopič Award and the Prešeren Fund Prize, Planinc was known for placing real objects in unusual relationships.

To mark the 100th anniversary of his birth, the Carinthian Gallery of Fine Arts (KGLU) – recipient of more than 600 of his donated works – presents a major retrospective celebrating his legacy. The exhibition sets Planinc’s visionary oeuvre in conversation with selected works by other key figures in Slovenian surrealism, including Kregar, Mihelič and Pregelj.
