Lipica – the oldest Lipizzan stud farm

Horse enthusiasts should not miss a visit to Lipica, where noble white Lipizzan horses have been bred for over 440 years. This tradition is recognised as UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage. These graceful horses inspire fans of classical riding in the tradition of the Spanish Riding School in Vienna, as well as those interested in dressage and carriage driving. Skilled riders will thoroughly enjoy the experience. And if you’re a novice rider, local centres also offer riding courses.

Visit the Lipizzaners with a guide or on your own

Experienced guides will show you all the special features of Lipica and the Lipizzaner horses during guided tours. You can also explore the estate on your own. During your visit, you can see the interactive Lipizzaner Museum Lipikum, the Culinary Museum, the Carriage Museum, the magnificent Velbanca Stable with vaulted ceilings and other attractions.

Ljutomer – the cradle of Slovenian trotting

When it comes to trotting in Slovenia, Ljutomer is the first place that springs to mind. It is home to the Ljutomer Trotter, a traditional Slovenian racehorse breed. The first horse race in Slovenia took place here in 1874, over 150 years ago. Several major trotting races still take place at the Ljutomer racetrack every year.
