Make Plan B for a "green" winter

Winter holidays without snow? Don't worry. Even in a "green" winter you can enjoy various outdoor activities. Here are some ideas for your Plan B.

Not enough snow? No problem!

Has climate change ruined your plans for a winter holiday by giving rise to a warm winter and no snow? Fear not! Even if there’s not enough snow, you can have an unforgettable winter holiday in Slovenia – only in a different way. You can visit a high-altitude ski centre where at least some ski runs will be covered with snow, conquer a popular peak, or find patches of snow hiding in idyllic alpine valleys. Maybe you can exchange your skis for a bicycle and take a trip around Slovenia. You certainly won’t be bored!

Enjoy skiing on high-altitude ski-slopes

Ski centres at altitudes higher than 1000 metres above sea level are usually still operating when spring flowers start blooming in the valleys. They mostly use artificial snow but there are also some ski slopes boasting only natural snow. Despite the rather springlike atmosphere, you will be able to ski on at least some parts of snow-covered ski runs.

Safety first

There is a saying in Slovenia, i.e. “The mountains are not crazy, but those who climb them are.” Therefore, it is very important to ensure your own safety when going into the mountains. Use the appropriate equipment, check the weather and snow conditions and choose trails that suit your physical condition. If this is your first time going into the mountains, it’s recommended that you are accompanied by a mountain guide.

Explore Pohorje in winter

In addition to the large ski centres of Rogla, Kope and Mariborsko Pohorje, you can also visit popular smaller ski centres, such as Celjska Koča and Trije Kralji. If the green winter prevents you from skiing to your heart's content, visit some of Pohorje’s attractions.

Visit popular spots in the Karawanks

Even in winter, the Karawanks are lit by the sun and many hikers like to visit the popular hiking spots there. Many mountain huts are also open in wintertime.
