Tina Maze is a legendary Alpine skier who has won virtually everything in her career – she is an Olympic and world champion and a record-holder with regard to the number of points won in the World Cup in a single season. She has been declared Female Athlete of the Year in Slovenia numerous times, and her incredible achievements have also earned her awards abroad. Although she has retired from competitive skiing, her drive for adrenaline and adventures in nature has not waned. She has prepared some recommendations for you to help you improve your stay in Slovenia by experiencing unforgettable adventures.

1. Suggestion: Adrenaline-filled experiences on a mountain bike

Tina Maze is from Črna na Koroškem, so one of her recommendations for mountain bikers is to visit cycling trails in the Koroška region. Discover single-track mountain biking trails between Črna and Mežica or explore the underground tunnels under Mt Peca by bicycle or kayak. According to Tina, in addition to Koroška, cycling trails in the Panovec Forest near Nova Gorica, which can also be a starting point for a trip to the Brda Hills, are also a real adventure.

2. Suggestion: Feel the wild energy of the River Soča

The River Soča with its distinct turquoise colour attracts attention and invites you to experience some adventures. Tina Maze also finds the adrenaline experiences on one of the most beautiful rivers in Europe exciting. Tame the wild nature of the clear River Soča and go down its whitewaters on a kayak or raft. You can also try something different – e.g. a hydrospeed, an open kayak or bellyak, a type of kayak, on which you lie on your belly and row with your hands. In the canyons of Soča’s tributaries, such as Sušec, Fratarica, Predelica and Pršjak, you can experience the magic of canyoning in a wonderful green environment.

3. Suggestion: Fly down a zipline like a bird

There is no lack of ziplines in Slovenia. Experience plenty of adrenaline and incredible pleasure as you look at the beautiful nature from a bird's perspective by daring to slide down the most breath-taking ziplines! Visit the largest zipline park in Europe located in the picturesque Učja Canyon, where there are ten ziplines with a total length of 4 kilometres. Overcome your fear of heights and prepare for a daring slide over the Bovec Valley on five ziplines between two mighty mountains, Mt Kanin and Mt Rombon. Zipline Kanin Slovenia was the first park of its kind in Slovenia and is still considered to be one of the largest in Europe. Feel the adrenaline felt by ski jumpers on the Giant Planica Ski Jumping Hill and slide down the steepest zipline in the world.

4. Suggestion: Breathe in the freshness of mountain nature

Many people take refuge from the summer heat in the mountains where temperatures are much more bearable. Tina Maze also likes to head to the mountains to enjoy some fresh air, so she recommends that you visit secured mountain trails, such as Mt Peca in its home region of Koroška and Mt Mangart in the Julian Alps. Climbing on secured trails equipped with a steel rope intended for securing yourself with climbing equipment will bring you at least a little bit of the adrenaline that can be felt during real rope climbing. However, Tina warns that you should select a trail depending on your skill level, and don’t forget that nature is stronger than you, so have some respect for it.

5. Suggestion: Catch your moment of peace with a fish hook

After the active and adrenaline-filled experiences treat yourself to a moment to yourself, just like Tina Maze, and relax by the water. Take a fishing pole and head out fishing. There are plenty of opportunities for this in Slovenia, whether it be fishing in general or fly fishing. However, don’t forget that a licence is required if you wish to fish.
