Slovenia in bloom!

There is no doubt – spring has arrived in Slovenia. Meadows, once blanketed in snow, are slowly turning green, while forests are transforming the landscape into the green heart of Europe. The milder climate invites you outdoors for walks and hikes. This is the perfect time to explore Slovenia’s botanical gardens and parks. Let Slovenia’s most beautiful spring scenes capture your imagination.

Fruit trees in bloom around the stunning church in the village of Bogojina in the Pomurje region, designed by Slovenia’s greatest architect Jože Plečnik. One of the most modern churches in Slovenia, it is often referred to by the locals as the White Dove.

The Vinarium Panoramic Tower near Lendava captivates visitors with its contemporary architecture, but even more so with its picturesque view of not one, but four neighbouring countries: Slovenia, Austria, Hungary and Croatia. As the landscape turns green and blooms, the scenery becomes even more breathtaking.

Spring has arrived in the vineyards of Vidošiči in the magical Bela Krajina region. Before long, the wine-growers will be out among their vines. Here’s to a rich and abundant harvest!

Have you ever visited the medieval village of Štanjel? This stone village, nestled in the heart of the hilly Karst landscape, enchants romantics who wander its narrow alleys down to the famous Ferrari Garden.

The mysterious Lake Cerknica is the largest intermittent lake in Europe. It is home to many animal species and a true paradise for plant lovers.

The Church of the Holy Trinity in the village of Hrastovlje is famous for its Dance of Death frescoes, painted in 1490. From here, you can walk through the stone village all the way to the Slovenian coastline.

The Karst landscape surrounding the village of Temnica invites visitors all year round, but especially in spring, when blooming spring trees and colourful meadows line the walking and hiking trails.

Brda - a land of intoxicating moments! In spring, the hills of Brda bloom with fruit trees, offering their luxurious canopies to admire. It's a magical time to get away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life and relax in the local villages, in characteristic stone cottages or boutique villas.

When showcasing spring in Slovenia, you mustn’t miss the purple saffrons that briefly transform the Velika Planina plateau into a fairy-tale scene. If you decide to wander among the saffrons, take care not to trample them.

Spring and daybreak in the Ljubljana Marshes. This is the largest wet grassland area in Slovenia, with hedgerows, forests, scrubland and water surfaces.

Ljubljana, the Slovenian capital, may be lively, but it also hides many quiet corners. Take a stroll along the banks of the Ljubljanica River towards the Botanical Garden and relax among the newly green willows.

Everyone should experience a walk among the thousands of colourful tulips that bloom every spring in the Volčji Potok Arboretum, just half an hour’s drive from Ljubljana. In this beautiful park, you could easily spend several hours walking along its paths and through its floral displays.

Golica is a popular hiking destination, also celebrated in one of the most famous folk songs in the world. The peak above the town of Jesenice turns white with blooming daffodils in April and May.

Spring has arrived at a high-mountain farm in the Solčava region. The Logar Valley is one of the most beautiful glacial valleys in Europe.

The Zelenci nature reserve, not far from Kranjska Gora, is one of the most famous natural attractions in this part of Slovenia. A walk there is not to be missed.
