Cycling along the former railway line between Muggia and Poreč, this route offers stunning views of the open sea as you cycle on a mix of asphalt and gravel. If you don't feel up to the whole trip, you can do just one stage of the route.
The D2 cycling route runs diagonally across Slovenia, from the far northwest in Rateče to the southeast in Brežice, following the scenic course of the Sava River. It is marked with red plates and mostly runs on local roads.
The Drava Cycling Route follows the course of the Drava River and crosses four countries – Italy, Austria, Slovenia and Croatia. The Slovenian section begins in Dravograd and ends in Ormož. The route follows a dedicated cycling path, with sections of both asphalt and gravel, making it ideal for mountain bikes and trekking bikes.
The Kočevje Cycling Route is a 4-day cycling tour that starts and ends in the picturesque town of Kočevje. One of the highlights is the second stage, which follows the scenic Kolpa River from Osilnica to Predgrad. Along the way, you can stop for a refreshing swim in Slovenia's warmest river. For those looking to extend their adventure, follow the peaceful flow of the Kolpa River all the way to Metlika in the Bela Krajina region.
Did you know that the Krka River is spanned by more than 21 bridges? Discover them all on this challenging cycle route from Novo Mesto to the river's source in Suha Krajina. The route takes you up one side of the river, down the other and back to Novo Mesto. Although it may seem like a shorter ride at first, you'll cover almost 100 km and gain 1000 metres of altitude in one day.
Slovenia is a cyclist's paradise, with scenic spots waiting to be discovered around every corner. As well as breathtaking scenery, many routes offer a mix of challenge, natural beauty, cultural heritage and delicious local cuisine. Some of the most enchanting rides are those that take you alongside rivers, lakes, and streams. So hop on your bike and explore the most beautiful cycling routes Slovenia has to offer.
If you're short on time or prefer a more leisurely ride, try one of the shorter routes along the water – perfect for a day trip.

This scenic trail follows the Vipava River from its stunning deltaic source all the way to the border with Italy. Cycling along the river can be a great family outing, as the route is neither too difficult nor too long and offers the chance to explore the vibrant natural world along the river. As you ride, you'll learn about a variety of habitats within the Natura 2000 site. You'll need a mountain or trekking bike. The route is also great for e-bikes.
The Jesenice to Rateče section of the D2 is one of the most popular cycling routes in Slovenia, renowned for its easy access and breathtaking scenery. Fully asphalted, it is suitable for all types of bikes, including road, mountain, trekking and e-bikes. Although it is a bit of a climb, it is also popular for family outings. The Sava Dolinka River accompanies you along the way, and the spectacular views of the towering Julian Alps make for a truly memorable ride.
For a scenic bike ride to Bled, try this loop starting in Radovljica, known for its charming old town. The route takes you along gravel paths by the Sava River, through fields and under forest canopies to the famous lake. From Bled, cross the Sava Dolinka River towards Žirovnica, then cycle through picturesque villages below Mt Stol, through Begunje and back to Radovljica. A mountain or trekking bike is recommended, although an electric bike can also make the trip enjoyable.
Nestled between the Mežakla and Pokljuka plateaus, the idyllic Radovna Valley enchants visitors with its untamed natural beauty and rich cultural and historical heritage. The cycling route along the Radovna River runs from Bled to Mojstrana, where it joins the D2 cycling route or serves as an access route to the long-distance Juliana Bike cycling trail. Fully asphalted, it is ideal for all types of bicycles and perfect for cyclists of all ages.
Bohinj is a shining example of sustainability, even when it comes to exploring the valley by alternative means of transport. You can take the train (and soon the bike) to Bohinjska Bistrica and from there follow the cycling route along the Sava Bohinjka River to Lake Bohinj. The route continues through the Upper Bohinj Valley, passing through picturesque mountain villages before looping back to the starting point. It is mostly asphalted and follows local roads, so it is perfect for all types of bike.
The Posavje Water Tour takes you on a journey that connects various water sources and rivers, starting from the thermal springs at the Terme Čatež Spa to the confluence of Slovenia's longest river, the Sava, with its largest right tributary, the Krka. Along the way, you'll also pass the country's largest reservoir, Lake Brežice, nicknamed the 'Sea of Brežice' by the locals. The route is a mixture of asphalt and gravel.
Indulge yourself in a cycling adventure along the former railway line trail connecting Velenje and Dravograd. A special experience is cycling through the Huda Luknja gorge watered by the Paka River. The trail will lead you across disused railway bridges and through tunnels, and you will be able to enjoy wonderful views of the Koroška landscape and the green Pohorje mountain range. At Dravograd you will reach the banks of the Drava, from where you can continue in the direction of Radlje ob Dravi and Maribor along the Drava cycling route.
