Are you up for a winter challenge?

Every leaf that falls from a tree in autumn takes our mind closer to winter time. Do you already know where you will spend your winter holiday? Slovenia is a perfect ski destination for anyone who wants to try several ski slopes in just a few days. You can ski on smaller ski slopes or at sprawling ski resorts. If skiing is not enough, experience something new and more challenging. Here is the list of the most attractive winter adventures awaiting you in Slovenia.

Winter Paragliding

Don’t put your paraglider away just because of a snowfall. Fly over the snow covered landscape from winter paragliding launch sites found at some ski resorts. If you take off from Mt Kanin or from the Mangart Saddle, you will be awed by the panoramic flight over snow-covered Bovec and the Soča River Valley. Experience a flight with a paraglide from Mt Vogel and enjoy an idyllic mountain view from the air.  You can treat yourself to a winter panoramic flight from Mt Krvavec, a ski resort only a few kilometres from the Slovenian capital of Ljubljana.

Have a date with pristine whiteness

Do you enjoy a snowy ride on skis or a board through fresh, powdery snow? Slovenia is filled with such pleasures. Freeriders or snowboarders will discover a snowy paradise primarily at the ski resorts at Kanin, Vogel and Krvavec. These ski resorts also hold freeride competitions but are also popular starting points for ski touring enthusiasts and snowboarders.

If you are among the enthusiasts looking for ski touring adventures, then by all means stop over at Jezersko or at the Logar Valley, both known as the most popular ski touring destinations. There are also some excellent ski touring destinations near Kranjska Gora and the Soča Valley. Pokljuka and Velika Planina are also known as a popular starting point for ski touring. Attention! You should always inquire beforehand if weather and snow conditions allow for such skiing and snowboarding pleasures.

Swing your ice axe into the ice wall

Ice-clad walls and frozen waterfalls are a great challenge for enthusiastic ice climbers. Artificial and natural ice-clad walls are to be found at various locations in Slovenia. In the Upper Sava Valley, the ice climbing destinations located in the Mlačca Gorge in Mojstrana and the Lucifer Frozen Waterfall near Gozd Martuljek are well worth visiting. The road across the Vršič Mountain Pass or the Predel Pass will take you to the Soča Valley, where the ice climbers can enjoy the most interesting natural ice climbing destinations in Trenta, Log pod Mangrtom and the Krn mountain range. There are ample opportunities for ice climbing in the Logar Valley, where the Palenk Waterfall is worth highlighting. Furthermore, ice-clad walls at Bohinj also feature a climbing challenge.
