Four Mighty Waterfalls on Bohor

Hidden deep in the forest are four magnificent waterfalls foaming even more than 15 metres into the depths. The stretched mountain range of Bohor with its highest peak at 1024 metres offers shelter to numerous protected animals and plants. In the spring, you can try to find a flower called “jarica” (Eranthis hyemalis) and you can also treat yourself to a delicious venison goulash at the mountain cabin.

Island of Love – fall in love with the world of the Mura River

Over the centuries, the Mura River in Ižakovci has created an island where, according to legend, lovers are destined to meet. Today you can feel the deep connection between the river and the people who live along its banks. The floating mill on the Mura and the ferry that you can still use to cross the river are examples of this unique bond. Next to the floating mill, you can visit the permanent exhibition "Büjraštvo" (the traditional craft of fortifying and damming the Mura riverbed) and buy local products from the Bürjaška iža shop. You can also take part in occasional weaving and pottery workshops.

In the freshness of the Upper Savinja forests and among the waterfalls, you will find inspiration and rest, as our ancestors did.

Ormož Basins – the wonderful world of birds

The Ormož Basins are a great example of how former industrial pools of a sugar factory can be turned into unique nature habitats. The Drava River ecosystem near Lake Ormož is an important waterbird nesting site and a key rest stop for migratory birds in Slovenia. As many as 29 breeding waterbird species have been recorded here, some of which are endangered or rare. You can learn about them on an interpretive trail, which includes lookout posts.

Through a primeval forest by the Lobnica stream to Šumik waterfall

When you want to enjoy the freshness and tranquillity of a forest, we recommend a walk by the Lobnica stream through the Pohorje primeval forest. The trail mostly follows the once longest water channel for transporting timber in Slovenia – Lobniška riža. It never leaves the valley of the Lobnica stream. After approximately 8 kilometres, it comes to the wonderful waterfall Veliki Šumik, which is considered one of the grandest waterfalls in Slovenia. You can also continue to the Mali Šumik falls, although the trail between the two waterfalls is quite difficult.

Wakepark Dooplek

Do you like surfing? Have you ever tried surfing or water skiing on a river? It is well worth trying these two water sports in the Wakepark Dooplek on the Drava River. The park is located in a pleasant and peaceful area by the river and offers a lot of fun on water-cable rides. You can find additional adrenaline-pumping adventures in the motor park and reward yourself with a refreshment in the nearby bar in the embrace of nature.

Maribor University Botanical Garden

Your senses will delight in the picturesque botanical garden. The eight hectares of the planted garden include both native plants and exceptional specimens from all over the world. The native and exotic trees in the garden include more than 120-year old sequoias, a giant cedar with a circumference of 364 cm, Caucasian firs, Eastern hemlocks, Lawson cypresses, copper beeches, larches, magnolias and yews. You can also visit a paleogarden, which includes an interpretive trail. Almost 3,000 years ago, the area of today's botanical garden was the central part of an extensive burial ground with barrows from the Early Iron Age.
