Celebrate anniversaries with us
In Slovenia, 2023 has been declared the year of the architect Edvard Ravnikar and the writer Ivan Tavčar. It is the 30th anniversary of the death of one of the most prominent architects of the modern era and the 100th anniversary of the death of one of the most important Slovenian writers of the Realist period. In 2023, we will also commemorate the 250th anniversary of the death of master beekeeper Anton Janša.
Edvard Ravnikar
Edvard Ravnikar was a student of the famous Jože Plečnik and one of the most important architects after World War II. His most important works include the urban design of the Republic Square in Ljubljana and the Gallery of Modern Art, while he also made a significant mark on the youngest Slovenian city, Nova Gorica and Kranj.
Ivan Tavčar
Unlike Ravnikar, the writer Ivan Tavčar was more attached to the rural idyll of the Škofja Loka region. His works put the beauty of the landscape of Poljane Valley and the life of its inhabitants on a pedestal. Tavčar's mansion in Visoko is definitely worth a visit.

Anton Janša
Anton Janša is considered the founding father of modern beekeeping. He was the first teacher of apiculture at the Habsburg court in Vienna and introduced revolutionary changes in the practice of beekeeping in the 18th century. Among other things, he recorded all of his findings in two books which are still a useful manual for many modern beekeepers. On his birthday, 20 May, we celebrate World Bee Day. 2023 marks the 250th anniversary of his death.

The castles of Posavje will be particularly involved in the commemoration of this anniversary, with various events and exhibitions on the famous Peasant Punt being organised.
