Before the 2020 top sporting event – the Summer Olympics in Tokyo, get caught up in the cheering frenzy at major competitions in Slovenia. If you are looking for alternative styles of music, visit Kino Šiška in Ljubljana. Among the well-known musicians coming to Slovenia in 2020, it is worth mentioning the British electro pop band Metronomy, who will make their fans happy in March, as well as the band Tindersticks, who will be presenting their new album in Ljubljana.

In addition to various festivals such as the 2050 Ljubljana Festival, the Bi Flamenco Festival, the LIFFE Film Festival, and the Slovenian Book Fair, Cankarjev dom will host a number of music, dance and theatre event in the coming year.  Among other things, do not miss the scientific vaudeville of 2020, performances by pianist Grigory Sokolov and the exceptional artist Pantha du Prince, and the exhibition of photographic portraits by Henri Cartier-Bresson.

Interesting concerts will also be held near Slovenia. Music pop diva Céline Dion will perform in Zagreb in early June. If you are looking for more wild rhythms, don't miss the concert of the German band Rammstein, which will be held in Klagenfurt in early May.

Celebrate major anniversaries with us

Slovenia will mark several major anniversaries in 2020. Among them, we will mark the 500th anniversary of the birth of Adam Bohorič, one of the key persons during the Reformation, who significantly contributed to the development and establishment of the Slovenian language. It will also be 30 years since the plebiscite, at which Slovenians decided to become an independent state. On both occasions, the Bank of Slovenia will issue commemorative and collector coins.

60th Kurentovanje celebration in Ptuj

Dance with the famous Kurenti and other carnival masks in the largest Shrovetide carnival in Slovenia. This unique ethnological festival, listed among the top 10 traditional winter festivals in Europe by the eminent newspaper The Guardian, takes place in Ptuj, which will also serve as the European festival capital in this anniversary year.
