Best holidays in Slovenia with a baby or toddler

Are you looking for the ideal holiday nest for your young family? Slovenia is baby- and toddler-friendly, accessible, safe and fun.

Childlike and playful Slovenia

Travelling with a baby or toddler can be quite a challenge, but not if you choose Slovenia. This charming and green tiny country in the heart of Europe is family-friendly and safe, and everything is within reach of one's hand (or foot). Many public areas and institutions are accessible with a stroller, and many public facilities, such as shopping centres, restaurants, cultural institutions, and sports facilities, have toilets for toddlers and baby changing rooms. In every corner you can find playgrounds suitable even for the youngest. Many institutions and public transport service providers offer free tickets for preschool children. There are quite a few other good reasons why Slovenia is an excellent destination for families with babies and toddlers.

Roaming around the city

The biggest advantage of Slovenian cities is that they are very close to the natural environment. They have well-kept parks and a lot of green areas where you can stroll with a stroller. Many parks also have playgrounds where the little ones can use up their extra energy. You can travel around the cities using public transport, and in some of them you can hop on a tourist train and make sure that your little ones get even more excited. Many museums and other cultural institutions have special programmes for families, as well as interesting and entertaining events for the youngest.

First discoveries of nature

The sounds and colours of nature, the aromas of meadows and forests, encounters with animals, a relaxed pace and fresh home-made food are the main reasons why you should go on holidays in nature with your little ones. Endless trails that run through the picturesque landscape are a great opportunity to learn about life in nature. Agritourism farms offer direct interaction with farm animals and a pleasant, homely haven. To spice up your holiday, you can visit fairylands, themed trails and small zoos.

Themed trails and experiences

While you can put babies who are just a few months old in backpack baby carriers and hit a hiking trail with them, hiking with toddlers is a different challenge. Choose shorter routes with less elevation gain. Your little one will prefer to walk if there are attractions along the way. This is why it is best to choose some of the themed trails and experiences that little ones will happily walk along.

Nature holds stories about elves, fairies, wild men and women, and other mythical creatures that give wings to a child’s imagination. This is why in Slovenia you can find fairylands, experiences and trails where little ones can learn about these mythical creatures.

Seaside experiences

Holidays on the Slovenian coast will be good for your baby or toddler. The climate itself and the air they breathe are beneficial. In the summer, you will find enough shade to protect you from the sun, but also enough opportunities to splash in the sea and play with a bucket and a spade. It is even better to come with a baby out of season, when everything calms down and you can really enjoy long walks along the coast on sunny days. The all-inclusive hotel offer will enable you to fully dedicate yourself to your toddlers and babies. Camping enthusiasts will find their ideal place in well-kept campsites.

Where to go to the beach with a baby or toddler

There are several baby-friendly bathing places on the Slovenian coast. Many beaches have shallow access to the sea and can be reached by stroller. You can find shade under the tree canopies or under an umbrella. The well-kept beaches have toilets and some of them also have baby changing rooms. The best way to avoid crowds is to come outside the peak summer season.
