The most beautiful experiences in the midst of flowers

Every Slovenian region is coloured slightly differently in spring. In this season, our green country is clothed in various colours covering meadows and plateaus. On the Velika Planina plateau, a romantic herdsmen’s settlement near Ljubljana, you can admire the violet colour of the saffron crocus, and in May, Golica Plateau in the Karavanke Alps is strewn with daffodils. Visit Bohinj too and enjoy the vibrant Wild Flower Festival when the valley is full of flowers. Near the capital city, the Volčji Potok Arboretum, the only independent arboretum in Slovenia, beckons you. Bend down, breathe in, and enjoy the scent of fresh spring flowers.

International Wild Flower Festival in Bohinj

Do you like flowers? Then, you cannot miss the International Wild Flower Festival in Bohinj. In spring, one of the most beautiful European Alpine valley is covered in colours and flowers. The festival takes place in the heart of the Triglav National Park, the only National Park in Slovenia. Mighty mountains and idyllic plateaus above the Bohinj Valley have always been considered to be a true treasure trove of Alpine flowers and plants. Choose your flower adventure! Local guides and botanic experts can take you on organised tours on mountain trails and meadows, which offer the most beautiful views of the Alps. After returning to the valley, treat yourselves to a culinary evening and a romantic boat ride on Lake Bohinj. The festival is also accompanied by cultural events and musical evenings.

A violet-coloured fairy tale in a herdsmen’s settlement

Experience a herdsmen’s fairy tale, put on your hiking shoes and enjoy nature – the singing of birds and the ringing of cow bells. Spring is particularly beautiful on the Velika Planina plateau, where one of the largest herdsmen's settlements in Europe is located. The saffron crocus, a small flower that clothes entire slopes in violet, is the special feature of this plateau. An imaginary land is thus created, which is especially romantic at sunset. You can spend the night in one of the herdsmen’s cottages, of which there are about 140 on the Velika Planina plateau. There, you can treat yourselves to some locally produced milk, or you can get Trnič, the famous cheese shaped like women’s breasts, also known as the cheese of love.

Head out among the daffodils on the most famous plateau in Slovenia

In spring, you can appreciate the immense creative force of nature on the Golica plateau. Spend an active day on this green plateau covered in white flowers. Every spring, the Slovenian media and social networks are filled with photographs of daffodils on the Golica plateau. The white carpet on Golica blends into stunning vistas of the Karavanke Alps and a part of the Julian Alps dominated by Mt Triglav, the highest mountain in Slovenia. The beauty of the Golica plateau was also admired by the famous musicians, the Avsenik brothers, who used its name for the title of their folk composition “Na Golici,” which is now considered to be the most played instrumental composition of the 20th century.
