Enjoy skiing even in spring
Are you one of those skiing enthusiasts that doesn’t want to put their skis away even when the weather turns warmer? Don’t worry, Slovenia also has higher-lying ski centres where you can go skiing even when snowdrops and primroses are already blooming in the valley. If the weather conditions are suitable, you can extend your ski season until the May Day holidays.
Skiing without borders on Kanin
The Kanin ski centre is the only Slovenian ski centre located high up in the Alps, at an elevation of 2,292 m. It is connected to the neighbouring Sella Nevea ski centre in Italy, and together they offer skiers more than 30 kilometres of well-maintained ski runs and skiing with a single ski pass. Due to the high elevation and an abundance of snow, the ski season in this ski centre usually lasts until the May Day holidays. In addition to excellent spring-time skiing, you’ll also be rewarded with a splendid view of the Soča Valley and the Julian Alps.
Spring-time skiing on Krvavec
The Krvavec Ski Centre is one of the most popular ski centres in Slovenia, and for a number of years it has been named the Top Slovenian Ski Centre. There, you can find 30 kilometres of dedicated ski runs and an abundance of other snow fun at an elevation from 1450 to 1971 m. It is the closest ski centre to the capital city of Ljubljana and it provides at least 100 days of skiing every season. The ski season usually lasts until April, but it can last longer if the snow conditions are favourable. The ski season is usually concluded with an exciting event called Luža.
A winter fairy-tale on Vogel – even in the spring
Go skiing in the embrace of the Julian Alps and Triglav National Park, which provide an incredible backdrop. The Vogel Ski Centre is a true winter fairy tale where you can go skiing on natural snow. Although the ski centre mainly depends on nature’s generosity, a suitably thick snow cover at an elevation of more than 1500 m allows you to go skiing even in spring, all the way until the end of April.
Springtime snow fun on Rogla
In the forests of the Pohorje Hills, at an elevation of more than 1500 m, you can find the Rogla Ski Centre, which is considered to be one of the most popular family ski resorts. In an area of approximately 100 hectares, there are well-maintained ski runs for experienced skiers and beginners alike, and the ski season lasts at least 100 days or, if the weather permits, until April. Even if you are not a skier, you can enjoy a wide range of snow activities on Rogla – for all generations.
Ski fun on Golte
On the eastern brink of the Kamnik and Savinja Alps, at an elevation between 1280 and 1576 m, you can find the Golte Ski Centre, which can be reached by way of a cable car or by driving up on a panoramic road. Due to many new developments and improvements, the centre has been increasingly making a name for itself among Slovenia’s ski centres, while also trying to extend the ski season as far into spring as possible. Experience the magical atmosphere of skiing in pleasant spring temperatures with a wonderful view of the Savinja Valley awakening in the spring.
Soriška Planina – in the winter and spring
Between Bohinj and Selca Valley, you can go skiing on Soriška Planina. This small, yet pleasant ski centre is located at an elevation between 1287 and 1550 m. Its good location and dynamic terrain provide a skiing experience for all generations, for people with all levels of ski skills; and you can also choose from among various winter activities. The ski season usually lasts from December to April.
Ski into the spring elsewhere, too
You can also experience early spring on your skis at some other lower-lying ski centres, which use artificial snow to ensure that the ski season lasts as long as possible. So, if there are favourable snow conditions and temperatures, you can go skiing in March in Kranjska Gora, Maribor Pohorje, Kope, or Cerkno.
We have not yet heard the last of winter
Even when we can smell the aroma of spring in the air, you can still find places to enjoy fun in snow, whether it be skiing, cross-country skiing, or walks in the snow. While you are able to still enjoy winter conditions in higher-lying locations, a spring atmosphere awaits you in the valley. Perhaps you can join Shrovetide masks or celebrate Easter with us.
