Discover the magic of Slovenia’s nature parks and treat yourself to unforgettable active experiences embraced by breathtaking nature.

Active and responsible in nature

Step into a world of pristine wilderness where life flourishes and nature’s masterpieces await your discovery. One national park, three regional parks, 34 landscape parks, 66 nature reserves and over 1,200 natural monuments – more than enough reasons to find peace and relaxation while admiring the beauty of nature.

Experience these wonders actively – on foot, by bike, kayak or canoe, on horseback and more. But remember, these parks are home to many rare and endangered species of animals and plants. Stay on marked trails and respect the nature and its inhabitants.

You are nature’s guests – respect your hosts

Nature parks safeguard valuable ecosystems and the rich biodiversity of protected areas. As visitors, it is important to avoid causing disruptions. This means you must respect the rules that apply to each specific area of the park and, above all, stay on well-maintained and marked trails. Only by following these rules will nature continue to be a place of peace and relaxation for generations to come.

Cycling on well-maintained trails in nature parks

Do you enjoy exploring nature by bike? Slovenia offers plenty of opportunities – even within some protected areas. For a relaxed ride, choose well-maintained trails winding through marshes, saltpans and Alpine valleys. More experienced cyclists can challenge themselves on routes across rolling hills, while mountain bikers will probably be drawn to the rugged trails among the Alpine peaks. Because of the delicate environment, always stick to well-maintained cycling routes and show respect for other trail users.

Water adventures in crystal clear rivers and lakes

The waters in nature parks mirror the beauty of the surrounding nature, inviting you to explore and refresh. Before you dive in, be sure to check where swimming is allowed – high mountain lakes are off-limits, but don’t worry, you will find plenty of natural swimming spots along rivers and lakes to cool off.

If you are seeking a bolder challenge, try rafting or kayaking through the river rapids. If you prefer a gentler experience, drift along calmer currents in a boat or on a stand-up paddleboard. Find your oasis of tranquillity and indulge in meditation while sport fishing amidst the untouched beauty of nature.  At the seaside, you can also discover the magnificent underwater world waiting beneath the sea surface.
