A comprehensive view of Pomurje

The Expano pavilion was erected to represent Slovenia at the Expo 2015 in Milan. Today it stands on the shore of Lake Sobota and offers a comprehensive view of Pomurje. Visitors can use its interactive solutions to learn about the history of Pomurje, get acquainted with the life and tradition of its inhabitants, and discover the natural and cultural features of its diverse landscape. It is in this pavilion that you can find information on the experiences and activities offered by Pomurje and discover the land along the Mura through a variety of the typical tastes prepared to perfection by the local top chefs.

The Expano pavilion also houses (is going to house) a Tourist Information Centre, where visitors can get advice on what the area has to offer. A culinary journey through Pomurje's plains and hills

A historical walk through the virtual attractions of Pomurje can make you very hungry. Treat your palate to an excursion to Pomurje! The pavilion is also home to a small restaurant, where you can taste Pomurje's traditional treats, prepared as daring culinary artworks by local master chefs. And when Pomurje gets completely under your skin, visit a shop with local goods and produce to take a piece of this region home with you.

Explore the tastes of Pomurje 

In Pomurje you can enjoy a range of local dishes and excellent wines from the local wineries. To make your choice easier, here are some dishes that you should not miss to taste in Prekmurje:

Prekmurska gibanica is one of the most recognisable Slovenian sweets, with a traditional speciality guaranteed designation. It is filled with poppy seeds, ground walnuts and apples.

Bograč is a thick stew made with three kinds of meat, peppers, tomatoes, potatoes and spices. There is a bograč cooking competition held in Lendava every year.

Prekmurje ham is a traditional dried meat product with a protected designation of origin.

The bujta repa turnip dish used to be an obligatory dish for lunch during the pig slaughter and sausage making season. It is made with turnips and millet gruel and is usually served with a piece of pork meat.

Dödöle is a kind of potato and coarse-grained, white-flour žganci. Dödöle is dressed with melted lard, onions, cracklings and sour cream. It can be eaten as a separate dish or as a side dish to meat. Dödöle can be enjoyed at any time of the day.

A relaxing stop at Lake Sobota

When you leave the Expano pavilion full of impressions, you can try out a number of attractive activities at Lake Sobota. If you are restless or want to be active, you can try a number of aquatic activities. Test your physical skills in the park with 35 climbing and other challenges are awaiting you. If you prefer to spend some quiet moments by the water, look for a space on the lakeshore or simply enjoy its natural environment.
