Particularly in the autumn, when the vines are heavy with the weight of the ripe grapes, there is a special magic to a cycling adventure along the many wine routes around all three Slovenian wine-growing regions. During this time, you can step off your bike and join the traditional grape harvests and delight in the vineyards. We have listed a few of the most interesting cycling experiences along the wine routes, which are worth exploring.
From the old grapevine to the neighbouring vineyards
The second-largest Slovenian city Maribor prides itself with the oldest vine in the world, which is more than 400 years old. There are three wine routes from this venerable wine “lady” to the countryside of Maribor and you can ride your bicycle on them. Individual points of the three wine routes are connected with the international Archduke Johann Trail from Graz to Maribor. If you are not one of the most enthusiastic cyclists, you can also ride an electric bicycle and ride along these roads.
Cycling in Prlekija and Pomurje
There are numerous trails through the Podravje wine-growing region, which run among the hills and plains and where you ride your bicycle.
