The Tour of Slovenia has been a major success. Mark Cavendish: “I’d like to come back!”

4 stages broadcast live by Eurosport, 4 days of diverse landscape, 4 days of sports spirit

From 15 – 18 June, the 24th Tour of Slovenia cycling race took place. The Slovenian Tourist Board participated in the project as one of the key partners. This year's race represented a milestone, as it was live broadcast by Eurosport, the world's largest sports channel and consequently reached 243 million of viewers worldwide, among them over 113 million of cycling enthusiasts.

The 24th edition of the tour got its sports heroes as the race came to its end in Novo mesto. Some of them didn’t come as a surprise, Polish climber Rafal Majka was considered as a favorite from the start. Mark Cavendish, considered one of the top sprinters in the recent years, said after the race: “I’ve enjoyed myself and I know that I’ve improved my riding here. I am very glad to be here and hope to come back next year.” Let us recall his last year’s Instagram post where he described Predjama castle as a pretty spectacular spot.

A total of 280 ads on TV channels Eurosport 1 and Eurosport 2

The project included a total of 280 ads on TV channels Eurosport 1 and Eurosport 2 in May and June, of which more than a half, 159 advertisements, presented the tourist offer of Slovenia, including the promotional videos of eight Slovenian tourist destinations: Koper, Ljubljana, Celje, Žalec, Novo mesto, Rogaška Slatina, Rogla and Slovenske Konjice.

Let the statistics speak

During the promotional activities in May and June when ads of Slovenia were shown on Eurosport channels and during the broadcast of the Tour of Slovenia race, the number of on-line search including the key words Slovenia, cycling and tour of Slovenia has increased tremendously. Bogdan Fink, the head organiser said that the visit of their webpage increased by 10-15 times, with 80 % increase of foreign followers.

Green, active and healthy

Cycling is one of the key products for the development and promotion of active holidays in Slovenia. Together with the Hiking & Biking Association, the Slovenian Tourist Board invites cycling enthusiasts to come to Slovenia and at the same time continuously helps improving the quality of cycling in Slovenia. For this reason, the live broadcast of the race on Eurosport is of great importance.

In Slovenia, sports and tourism go hand in hand

Slovenians are a sports nation. Although there are only two million of inhabitants, Slovenia boasts a great number of internationally known athletes, who are the best ambassadors of the country. Also, in the recent years, Slovenia has developed its sports infrastructure, making it a perfect destination for major international sporting events.

Fight for green

This year's race also brought the new image of the race, supported by the new slogan Fight for green, which emphasizes our joint commitment to socially responsible and a sustainable attitude towards the natural resources. The Slovenian Tourist Board has received numerous awards in the fields of the sustainable tourism development, including the prestigious award given by the National Geographic, World Legacy Award.
