Slovenia Takes Centre Stage as Partner Country at the Czech Republic’s Largest Tourism Fair

Slovenia will take centre stage at the 33rd International Tourism Fair, Holiday World & Region World, in Prague from March 14 to 16. At one of the most significant tourism events in Central Europe, Slovenia holds a particularly prestigious role as the official partner country. This offers a unique opportunity to highlight its diverse, authentic and sustainable tourism experiences.

At the heart of the Slovenian showcase at PVA Expo Prague, a dynamic selection of destinations and tourism providers will present the best of Slovenia’s diverse offer. Visitors can explore the highlights of Julian Alps, Kamnik-Savinja Alps, Kamnik, Ljubljana Tourism, Maribor Tourist Board, Škofja Loka and Idrija, Visit Lendava and Visit Celje. Beyond these key destinations, leading wellness and hospitality providers will also take the stage, including Sava Tourism, Terme Čatež, Terme Olimia, Thermana Laško, Terme Dobrna, Terme Lendava, Terme Vivat, Terme Banovci, Hotel Atlantida, Rogaška Slatina, Ribno Alpine Resort Bled and Golte. To make the event even more engaging, Camp Menina will delight the youngest visitors with interactive animations.

A special spotlight will be on the experiences offered by the Association of Historical Towns of Slovenia, presented in partnership with the destinations of Bela Krajina and Metlika. Adding even greater promotional value, Slovenia’s presence will extend to the FOR BIKES fair, running alongside Holiday World & Region World. This further reinforces Slovenia’s reputation as a top-tier cycling destination.

MSc. Maja Pak Olaj, Director of the Slovenian Tourist Board, emphasized: “Interest from Czech visitors in Slovenia has been steadily increasing in recent years. In 2023, Czech tourists generated 33% more overnight stays in Slovenia than before the pandemic, making the Czech Republic one of our key markets. As the partner country of the Holiday World & Region World fair, we aim to bring visitors even closer to Slovenia’s unique, year-round experiences. Together with our destinations and tourism companies, we seek to further strengthen cooperation with Czech business partners and solidify Slovenia’s position on the international tourism map.”

Almost 27,000 Visitors Attended Last Year’s Fair

The Holiday World & Region World Fair is the most significant tourism fair in the Czech Republic and a key event for the wider Central European region. This prestigious international platform brings together national tourism organizations from across the globe –ranging from renowned European destinations to far-flung locations in the Americas, Asia, and Africa. Alongside the international showcase, Czech regions are strongly represented.

In 2024, the fair welcomed nearly 27,000 visitors, with over 300 exhibitors from 24 countries. This year, the fair takes place from 14 to 16 March, with the opening day dedicated to industry professionals, followed by a weekend tailored for the general public.

Slovenia has already taken centre stage at today’s official opening and press conference, where MSc. Karmen Novarlič, Head of Business Communication at the Slovenian Tourist Board, addressed the audience. The Ambassador of the Republic of Slovenia to the Czech Republic, Aleš Balut, was also in attendance. Later in the evening, Slovenia will host an exclusive gala event for key business partners, where guests will experience Slovenia through its exceptional cuisine, premium wines and a captivating cultural programme.

Czech Travellers Are Drawn to Slovenia’s Mountains Municipalities

Czech interest in Slovenia continues to rise. In 2024, Czech tourists generated almost 240,000 arrivals and over 684,000 overnight stays – marking a 26% increase in arrivals and a 33% rise in overnight stays compared to pre-pandemic levels in 2019. Last year alone, Slovenia saw a stable 3% growth in arrivals and a 4% increase in overnight stays from the Czech market.

Czech visitors are particularly drawn to Slovenia’s outdoor activities, wellness experiences, camping, gastronomy and rich cultural heritage. Nearly half of all Czech overnight stays in Slovenia last year were recorded in mountain municipalities, showcasing their preference for active holidays in pristine natural settings. Sustainability is also playing an increasingly important role in their travel choices, further reinforcing Slovenia as an attractive, easily accessible destination for both short getaways and extended stays.
