Celebrating World Tourism Day with Impressive Figures from the First Eight Months of 2024

World Tourism Day, celebrated annually on 27 September since 1980, marks the adoption of the UN Tourism Statute in 1970. This year, the global observance is themed Tourism and Peace, highlighting the vital role that tourism plays in fostering mutual understanding, cultural exchange and harmony between nations.

Tourism is a vital economic sector in Slovenia, contributing 5.4% to the nation's GDP and providing 6.3% of all jobs. This year's World Tourism Day focuses on the role of tourism in an increasingly connected and interdependent world. It is an industry built by people for people – strengthening mutual understanding, breaking down stereotypes and overcoming prejudices. Tourism opens doors to new cultures, introduces us to different languages, offers unique culinary experiences and fosters connections with people from all over the globe. It promotes tolerance and acceptance of diversity.

The Slovenian Tourist Board (STB) invites you to explore a special webpage dedicated to celebrating World Tourism Day. Here, you can read or listen to messages from the Minister of Economy, Tourism, and Sport, Matjaž Han, the UNWTO Secretary-General, Zurab Pololikashvili and the Director of the STB, MSc. Maja Pak Olaj.

Additionally, you will find detailed information about this year's tourism results, an overview of the many events happening across Slovenia on World Tourism Day and inspiring stories about Slovenian tourism in light of the central theme.
