Through its partnership with the Championship, the Slovenian Tourist Board (STB) is carrying out a number of promotional activities to communicate the I feel Slovenia brand and to strengthen Slovenia's visibility as a destination committed to sustainability and an excellent host of high-profile sporting events.

The Women's EHF EURO 2022 - which takes place between 4 and 20 November - will be the biggest women's sporting event in the history of the Republic of Slovenia and one of the biggest events this year. Through its partnership with the Championship, the Slovenian Tourist Board (STB) is carrying out a number of promotional activities to communicate the I feel Slovenia brand and to strengthen Slovenia's visibility as a destination committed to sustainability and an excellent host of high-profile sporting events. The STB's promotional activities focus on the strong exposure of the I feel Slovenia brand at the venues of the matches and in the television broadcasts, in communication activities on social networks and other communication channels of I feel Slovenia and the organiser, in communication with foreign and domestic media representatives and in numerous other communication activities, where it reinforces the reputation of our country as an excellent host of international sporting events and inspires sports lovers to take an active holiday in Slovenia.

MSc. Maja Pak, Director of the Slovenian Tourist Board, highlights the interconnection between sport, sport events and tourism: "Sport and tourism are closely linked, and have strong synergy effects. Sport events are extremely important to promote a country to millions of people and to encourage tourists to visit a destination. That is why the Slovenian Tourist Board is partnering with major international sporting events, including the European Women's Handball Championship, which will be watched by 600 million sports fans. In addition, 30,000 overnight stays in Slovenia from key Slovenian tourism markets are expected," and goes on to add that sports tourism is one of the fastest growing sectors in tourism with a high multiplier effect, which plays a major role in highlighting sustainable sporting events: "Sport has the power to promote sustainable behaviour. I am pleased to see that the European Women's Handball Championships is putting a strong emphasis on sustainability and that the organisers have developed strict sustainability standards."

I feel Slovenia Sport and Business Conference

On Wednesday, 2 November, the sports and business conference entitled "Business Opportunities in Slovenia", under the honorary patronage of the President of the Republic of Slovenia, Borut Pahor, started in the framework of the "Slovenian Business Centre - I feel Slovenia". The three-day conference, organised by the Handball Federation of Slovenia in partnership with the STB and the Slovenian Public Agency for the Promotion of Entrepreneurship, Internationalisation, Foreign Investment and Technology (SPIRIT), focused on sports policies and strategies and multiplier effects. There is no doubt that sports events are an excellent way of promoting our country as a tourist, recreational and sporting destination with a growing impact on the economy and development.

In particular, the Championship highlights the role and importance of women in sport and beyond with the Women's Empowerment Ambassadorship, which has seen 17 prominent and high profile women, including MSc. Maja Pak. By organising the Women's EHF EURO, the European Handball Federation highlights the importance of promoting and discussing sustainable development and women's empowerment, both in the context of sporting events and in contemporary society as a whole.

The championship will reach hundreds of millions of sports and active leisure enthusiasts

More than 600 million spectators are expected to watch the Championship on TV screens, while around 20,000 foreign fans are expected to attend the event live, at two venues (Stožice Hall in Ljubljana and Zlatorog Hall in Celje). Norwegians, Danes, Hungarians, Swedes, Germans and French will be in the lead. A total of 30,000 overnight stays are expected in Slovenia during the Championships.

The Championship also focuses on sustainability and places great emphasis on the involvement of different stakeholders. The organisers have set themselves the goal of staging the most sustainable sporting event ever in Slovenia. To this end, they have developed detailed sustainability standards.
