European Food Summit – FOOD for future’s GOOD

The European Food Summit, as the peak of gastronomic Europe is returning to Ljubljana, Slovenia. With the main emphasis on food culture, diversity and sustainability, it sets the direction for the future. Top chefs, scientists and internationally renowned journalists and individuals making the world a better place are coming to Slovenia between 28th and 30th March 2020. It is time we bring more to the table.

European Food Summit – FOOD for future’s GOOD

Slovenia is experiencing a real culinary revival lately. Ranking our chefs at the very top of the world, gaining the title European Gastronomic Region 2021, classifying Ljubljana among the world's best culinary destinations, the arrival of international culinary guides, Gault&Millau and the famous Michelin, all make Slovenia one of the best culinary destinations in the world. It is also becoming interesting and recognizable for high-class gastronomic experiences due to its attitude towards food. Namely, Slovenia is one of the countries that waste the least food and its inhabitants support local production, which is why the food travels the shortest distance from the field to the plate. However, it is not only important that the ingredients are such high quality, but also that their production leaves a small carbon footprint. Although some other countries pride with such facts as well, there are still too few.

You are not only what you eat but how you eat it

Gastronomy offers many opportunities and challenges for innovation. We constantly present culinary surpluses on the table and answers to questions regarding how to improve the world with food and raise our eating culture to a higher level. Although we strive for sustainability and responsible behavior these days, the numbers still show otherwise. The amount of harvested and wasted food is still growing and the number of hungry people in the world is still increasing. Our planet's message is clear - we are doing something terribly wrong! Climate changes and global warming are consequences of the problems we have created by decades of irresponsible treatment of our planet. The scientists are clear: 40 % of all solutions leading to a reduction in the amount of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere are associated with our food system. It is time to become aware that each individual has an important role. It is time we bring more to the table!

It is up to us to create a future of milk and honey

We need concrete solutions, how the right decisions and actions can change the attitude towards food, improve food culture and promote responsibility towards food.

The European Food Summit is one of the most important culinary events in Europe. With emphasis on sustainability, diversity and food culture, it sets the direction for the future. It is more than just a top culinary event, as it raises awareness of the global impacts of food, brings together great minds from around the world and creates a better tomorrow.

Each year, the event grows and leaves an indelible mark in the world of cuisine and social responsibility. Thus Slovenia, at the crossroads of European geographical routes and cultures, in partnership with the Slovenian Tourist Board (STB) and Turizem Ljubljana, organized by company Jezeršek Catering, shall host the European Food Summit under the main slogan FOOD for future’s GOOD with a number of top culinary events and symposiums.

Good food is more than just a matter of good taste

Rich accompanying program of the three-day event shall first accompany the speakers and the invited foreign journalists to an introduction at Hiša Franko and then continue their route at the culinary market and an innovative culinary stroll through the capital, entitled Gourmet Ljubljana Crawl, followed by a dinner experience and many other events that for now shall remain a mystery. The highlight of the event will be on the last day, at a full-day symposium where the speakers, with their stories, under the baton of Ana Roš, the world's best chef and the World Tourism Organization ambassador, and curator Andrea Petrini, who is considered one of the key players in gastronomy,  will teach, inspire and encourage us to think and work towards a better and sustainable future.

The European Food Summit is for anyone who, with the help of food, wants to change the world for the better, regardless of their profession, so we would like to invite anyone to join us on this journey.

Let us make a better world together.
