Slovenia presents itself at exclusive events at WTM London

Yesterday, the participants of the Leaders’ Lunch and the PATA association dinner were getting acquainted with green Slovenia and how to actively spend their free time exploring its cuisine and culture, while today, the Slovenian stand hosted two brunches for the media and social media influencers. The presentations were held by the Slovenian Tourist Board (STB) in cooperation with the Ministry of Economic Development and Technology (MGRT) and the Slovenian tourism industry.  For the first time, the STB presented the new Slovenia Green promotional video to the global tourist industry representatives.

On the invitation of Reed Exhibitions, the organiser of WTM London, the STB presented Slovenia as an attractive green tourist destination with a focus on its culinary offer at the Leader’s Lunch event yesterday in the early afternoon. Reed Exhibitions organised the event for select invitees of the global tourism industry, i.e. the most prominent representatives of various tourist associations, agencies, operators, media and others. Lord Sebastian Coe, president of the International Association of Athletics Federations, and Dr Kevin Dutton, researcher at the Department of Experimental Psychology at the University of Oxford, held a lecture for visitors about persuasion as a component of successful strategies in the tourism industry. The lecture was followed by the Slovenian presentation by Maja Pak, Managing Director of the STB, and the event concluded with a Slovenian lunch for the guests to discover flavours from various Slovenian macro destinations.  Master chef Uroš Štefelin, together with other chefs from the Julian Alps, prepared dishes inspired by the Alpine world in front of the guests.

Yesterday, Slovenia was the official destination partner at the evening gala event organised by the Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA). Daniela Wagner, regional membership director for Europe, Middle East and Africa, presented Slovenia to select members of the association. Eva Štravs Podlogar, State Secretary of the Ministry of Economic Development and Technology, and Maja Pak, Managing Director of the STB, presented the exclusive range of 5-star experiences in green Slovenia to the guests. The audience got a sense of Slovenian culture through a visually attractive opera performance by the Serpentes Magic Theatre and had a taste of the culinary selection by trying an innovative dessert made with Slovenia's traditional potica dessert.

The same evening, the STB launched its new promotional video, Green Slovenia.

It presents Slovenia as a green destination and invites visitors to experience its unspoiled nature and go on unique adventures. The video was produced in close cooperation between the STB and the internationally recognised photographer Ciril Jazbec, who regularly works with National Geographic.

As a green destination perfect for enjoying active leisure time and committed to sustainable development, Slovenia is also presenting its complementary products of cuisine and culture at the Slovenian exhibition stand during the WTM London (4–6 November). The central theme is the new Juliana long-distance hiking trail that was presented in more detail to representatives of the global media and social media influencers this morning.

STB treated them to two special brunches. The first one focused on active leisure time and the products for 2020, with an emphasis on the Juliana hiking trail through the experience of Klemen Langus, director of the Julian Alps Community, and its other representatives. Through the dishes of Uroš Štefelin, the brunch participants discovered the culinary specialities of the Alpine region of Slovenia.

In the context of the European Region of Gastronomy 2021 title, the Slovenian culinary specialities that contribute to the 5-star experiences were also the focus of the second brunch. Guests had the opportunity to create their own My Way menu using authentic Slovenian ingredients that was then prepared by Jezeršek Catering. Vila Planika and Ljubljana Tourism presented good practices including local ingredients and suppliers.
