The renovated Park Café & the famous Bled cream cake

The Park Café is home to the one and only original Bled cream cake. Renovated for the first time after almost 30 years, it opens its doors this spring. The renovated café is decorated with spruce wood, which is a recurring theme in the renovated accommodations of Sava Hotels & Resorts at Bled.

The Park Café is home to the one and only original Bled cream cake. Renovated for the first time after almost 30 years, it has opened its doors this spring. Guests will now have a chance to enjoy the attractive refurbished atmosphere with the most beautiful view of all the famous Bled sights: Lake Bled, the island, and the castle.

The renovated Park Café is decorated with spruce wood, which is a recurring theme in the renovated accommodations of Sava Hotels & Resorts at Bled. The spruce wood details, inspired by the local spruce trees of Pokljuka, create a pleasant, elegant cosiness, and bring in a touch of the local environment. The large glass surfaces offer the best view of Bled. Particular attention was paid to the lighting in the café, decorated with Slovenian-made lights in the shape of pine cones. The common spruce is the most widely spread tree in Slovenia, and local legends say that spruce trees can remove disease from the sick. Pine needles, shoots, resin, amber, and essential oils are used in natural treatments, and spruce shoots were used to create the Bled spruce liqueur, which can only be tasted at the Park Café.

The “sweet queen of Bled”, which is how the unique original Bled cream cake is often referred to, has now a refreshed and refurbished home. Here, the confectioners have been making the famous dessert for as long as 66 years, ever since 1953. And this year, the 15-millionth cream cake will be made. This means that 131 tons of flour, 8,437 million eggs and 1,556,000 litres of milk will be used.

The original Bled cream cakes are freshly prepared every day, without any industrial formula. The confectioners prepare them by hand, which is very rare in today's world. The cream cakes are made several times a day, and at weekends, the busiest time at Bled in terms of visitor numbers, every hour.

Tasting the original Bled cream cake is a very unique experience. First, you crack the crisp top crust with your fork and then scoop all four layers together. The crisp crust and the blend of heavenly light custard and whipped cream. Combined with the most beautiful view of the famous Bled sights – Lake Bled, the island, and the castle – it creates a moment of perfect pleasure. It is said that a visit to Bled is simply not complete, if you don’t treat yourself to the original Bled cream cake.
