Fonda Fish Farm wins The Jakob International Award

The Jakob Award for excellence and quality in tourism is awarded each year at the Alpe-Adria Fair, the main tourist fair in Slovenia. This year’s theme was New sustainable hunting, fishing and wildlife observation forms. The International Commission consisting of renowned experts in fields of tourism and hospitality, including Jožko Sirk, who owns a Michelin star restaurant just accross the Slovenian border in Italy, Lojze Wieser, the publisher and culinary expert from Austria and Janez Bogataj, renowned Slovenian ethnologist. The prize is "an incentive and a motive for all those who work in tourism. In addition, it also serves as a guideline to tourists, which projects are worth including when visiting Slovenia", says Bogataj.

The Jakob 2019 Award went to the project  An Unforgettable Day at the Fonda Fish  Farm (Fonda Fish Garden - Your Next Unforgettable Day): The committee explained that out of seven projects received, "Fonda Fish Garden - Your next unforgettable day" project showed the largest amount of innovation in marine fishing tourism, since it represents a form or a model that will ensure a quality diet in the future. A positive impact of breeding of the sea bass in the Piran Bay was also the fact that other marine organisms started inhabiting the area: among them some, which have almost been extinct. Fish breeding is a slow process, and thus similar to natural growth of wild bass. The project itself is innovative also since it links fish breeding with tourism: at Fonda Fish Farm, numerous tours take place, which include sea bass tasting and also cover various educational and awareness-raising forms.

Recently, The Unforgettable Day at the Fonda Fish Farm project has also been ranked among Slovenia Unique Experiences, 5-star experiences, which provide premium quality experiences supporting the story of the I Feel Slovenia brand and Green Boutique Slovenia for 5-star Experiences.
