New summer route between London and Ljubljana announced!

From 15 July to 2 September 2019, British Airways will operate a twice weekly service (Fridays and Mondays) from London Heathrow to Ljubljana Airport. British Airways, which opened an impressive number of routes in 2017 and 2018, sees a great opportunity in opening this summer route and by doing this encourages leisure visitors to explore Slovenia.The introduction of buy on board and hand baggage only fares has made it easier for British Airways to compete on price in leisure markets.

Currently, two other airlines offer direct flights to Ljubljana airport: Easyjet to London Stansted and Gatwick and WizzAir to London Luton. Opening of an additional route will surely have a positive impact and boost the number of tourist arrivals from the UK, which already is one of the key markets for Slovenia. Their passion for outdoor activities and pristine nature makes Slovenia their dream-land. The picturesque lake Bled has also become a popular wedding destination. They like to compare it with Lake Como, only it is much less crowded and as they put it “totally understated in this comparison”.

Also, statistics prove that the interest in the UK for Slovenia is increasing: in the period between January and October, the number of tourist arrivals reached 146,048, which makes 3.83 % market share and places the UK on the 7thplace according to the number of tourist arrivals. According to the number of overnight stays, the UK market ranks even higher, on the 5thplace, with 4.36 % and 434,512 overnight stays.
