What’s new at Otočec Castle

Otočec Castle, a picture-perfect castle set on an island amidst Krka River is a popular venue for wedding. This is at the same time also the only island castle in Slovenia. It houses a world-class restaurant and a luxurious hotel, a member of the Relais & Châteaux chain, and successfully connects superb hotel services with local environment. Just recently, a new winery has been set up within the castle buildings.

Winegrowing is a tradition of the surrounding countryside. The region of Dolenjska is especially famous for its light red wine Cviček, an undeniably sour, but also quite fresh, light and fruity wine limited to a maximum of 10 % alcohol.The nearby hills open the view of tiny vineyards with the basements full of barrels with this red wine. The tradition of wine-growing and wine culture are rooted deeply in the hearts of the locals, so opening the castle winery was a logical thing to do. For this reason, one of the castle towers has been turned into first-rate wine cellar, where valued domestic and foreign wines of higher quality found place. illuminated only with a ceiling hanging chandelier, the castle winery has become a popular venue for special occasions.
