New stage of Drava cycling route
Just recently, the new stage of Drava Cycling Route has opened. It connects Maribor and Ptuj through the municipalities of Miklavž na Dravskem Polju, Starše and Hajdina.

The 710 km long cycling route along Drava runs through 4 countries (Italy, Austria, Slovenia, Croatia). Beginning right next to the source of Drava on Toblach Field (Toblach) in Italy, the route then continues through Austria, Slovenia, and finally Croatia.
Just recently, the municipalities between Maribor and Ptuj on the right bank of Drava River have arranged and marked additional 30 km of new cycling routes. To establish the connection, the municipalities of Maribor (approx. 2 km), Miklavž na Dravskem polju (approx. 1.5 km), Starše (approx. 10 km) and Hajdina (approx. 1.5 km) have reconstructed approximately 15 km of macadam roads along Drava River and turned them into cyclist-friendly macadam roads.
The cycling route is mostly located in the immediate vicinity of the old riverbed of the Drava River, in the area of the Drava Landscape Park, away from other traffic and urban areas. This concept of regulation follows the guidelines used by the Austrians, where half of the trails are organized in a macadam, but nevertheless attract more than 100,000 cyclists per year.
