Salty or sweet? Open-air events are in full swing!

Spring is the season of open-air events! What is not to be missed this weekend (20-22 April)? Along with a number of smaller local events, two major events which highlight country’s rich culture and tradition, will take place this weekend. The only choice you have to make is deciding whether you wish your weekend to be salty or sweet.

If you opt for salty, the must-visit event will be the Salt Making Festival (St. George’s Day), taking place is the charming coastal town of Piran. If you’re more into chocolate, then the biggest chocolate-themed festival in the alpine town of Radovljica, set amid the Julian Alps peaks, is surely not to be missed.

The town of Piran is famous for its centuries old salt making tradition, which becomes particularly lively on St. George`s Day, who is also the patron saint of the town. Back in the old days, this holiday marked the beginning of a new salt-making season. Many people, who worked at the saltpans, even moved to small saltpans houses -  this will once again be symbolically shown by the departure of salt-making families from the port of Piran to Sečovlje saltpans by boat. Rich entertainment and cultural program will be accompanied by a number of stalls selling local (salty) products.

If you visit Radovljica this weekend, you will have a feeling that you stepped into one of the scenes in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory movie and a dream-come-true for all chocolate lovers. Chocolatiers from all over Slovenia gather in the charming medieval town of Radovljica and offer bite-size chocolate treats. In addition, the festival features exceptionally rich accompanying entertainment programme and numerous chocolate attractions.
