Get ready for the first IRONMAN in Slovenia!

On 23 September, the first IRONMAN event in Slovenia will take place, bringing athletes from around the world to the region of Slovenian Istria. This is not only a unique experience for all those who are not afraid to push their limits, but also a great opportunity to present the country a perfect tourism destination.

With access to the Adriatic Sea and rolling hills as well as a perfect touristic infrastructure, Slovenian Istria is a place made for such an event. The I FEEL SLOVENIA IRONMAN 70.3 Slovenian Istria triathlon will lead through old towns, picturesque villages and nature with magnificent views. Four beautiful coastal cities, Koper, Izola, Piran and Ankaran, will host athletes and their supporters, offering a distinct Mediterranean experience each with their own unique attractions and charms.

The race will start in Koper, with the 1.9 km (1.2 miles) spectator-friendly swim course. A 90.1 km (56 miles) bike course leading through two countries – Slovenia and Italy – then awaits the participants as they ride through the old town of Koper and the city of Ankaran. In Milje (Muggia) athletes cross the state border between Slovenia and Italy and ride along the Italian coast. On its return to Slovenia the course passes Osp, one of Slovenia’s oldest villages with beautiful stone houses and picturesque streets. Two more ascents follow in the hinterland of Slovenian Istria and the course ends with a long descent where athletes are able to enjoy an amazing view over two well-known Slovenian tourist destinations, Koper, Izola and Piran.

A two-lap run course of 21.1 km (13.1 miles) concludes the race. The course leads through the center of Koper and then along the coastal road to Izola and back. The run course is flat with its highest point just 5 meters (16 feet) above sea level. The finish line is located at the promenade of Koper right next to the sea.

Nestled in the heart of Europe at the crossroads of four vastly contrasting landscapes, Slovenia is a true little gem with a striking and diverse nature and the perfect playground for a range of outdoor and indoor activities. With more than 10,000 km of marked hiking trails, 14 cycling destinations, endless possibilities for cave trekking, white-water rafting, climbing and standup paddle-boarding across crystal-clear waters, the country is a must-visit destination for all adventure seekers. What’s more, whatever you fancy is only a stone’s throw away.
