Futsal EURO 2018 to take place in Ljubljana within a week

In 2018, Slovenia will host many international sporting events, which prove that the country is gaining on popularity also as a sports destination. From 30 January to 10 February 2018, UEFA Futsal EURO 2018 will take place in Ljubljana. There will be 12 participating teams, including the Slovenian Futsal team.

Futsal EURO 2018 to take place in Ljubljana within a week

The UEFA Futsal Euro 2018 tournament will take place from 30 January to 10 February at Arena Stožice in Ljubljana, which was also the venue for EuroBasket 2013 finals. 12 teams will be split into four groups of three, with the top two in each group progressing to the quarter-finals. So far, in the whole history of the competition, only three nations have won the golden medal: Spain, Russia and Italy. Next to Portugal, starring perhaps the world’s best player Ricardinho, they remain favourites also for this year’s gold. In total, there will be 20 matches played at UEFA Futsal Euro 2018.

Hence, it’s no wonder that it boasts a unique sports culture and that it is always among the countries with the highest number of medals per capita at Olympic Games and other major international competitions! The country boasts a number of world-famous athletes, including Tina Maze, who has been proclaimed as one of the world’s best skiers of all times, or Peter Prevc, the Slovenian ski jumper, who was the first person to jump more than 250 metres on skis and the first ski jumper to win all important competitions in one season, while breaking numerous records at the same time. We’re successful also in group sports: just recently, we have won the European Basketball Championship! So we keep our fingers crossed for a good outcome also in Futsal.
