Visit Slovenia during the magical time of December

During the Advent season, Slovenian towns change into idyllic Christmas villages, decorated by the festive markets and fairs. Every day you can choose a different festive fairytale in Slovenia, yet all are connected through lively cultural events, music events, concerts, and delicious traditional food and drink, as well as original Christmas gifts and the ice skating rinks for some playful Santa´s spirit.

Visit Slovenia during the magical time of December

In the capital, Ljubljana, unique fairytale decorations and lights await visitors, together with a colourful programme of celebrations, free events and concerts. This year Kongresni Trg (Square) is being transformed into an Ice Fantasy for ice skating.

In Maribor, the biggest Slovenian city square and other picturesque locations offer Christmas market stalls and many open-air events. Visitors can enjoy ballet or opera in the National Theatre and then hang out for a cup of hot spiced Christmas wine.

The town of Celje is transformed into Fairytale Land. This year´s attraction will be the staged photo stops photo stages, adorned with fairytale scenes, made from magical light designs. The programme of Fairytale Land is invigorated by processions and animations of dwarfs, magic fairies and other creatures.

Kranj is one of the loveliest festive-lit towns in Slovenia. The old town becomes a Christmas market with colourful stands, offering original gifts, Kranj specialities, including the famous sausage of Kranj, and typical drinks such as Kranj beer or mulled wine, with a programme full of music events.

Magical Christmas settings also include the towns of Koper, Piran and Portorož, where the smell of the Mediterranean Sea is mixed with winter spirit at Christmas markets and festive events.
