Ski season opening in Slovenia

This year´s ski season is starting earlier than expected – the high-altitude ski resorts have already had the first big snowfall of the season! The ski slopes of Kanin and Vogel in the Julian Alps are among the most picturesque Slovenian ski resorts. They both opened this weekend for the first time this year. Ski passes have reduced prices during the pre-season, when the lifts operate from 9am to 4pm.

The linked ski resort KANIN-SELLA NEVEA (Bovec, Slovenia) is the highest Slovenian ski resort, located more than 2000m above sea level overlooking the spectacular Soča valley, one of the most popular Slovenian outdoor destinations. KANIN  ski resort has the longest gondola in Slovenia, taking skiers from the Bovec valley (436m) to the central part of the ski area (2,200m). It operates with a single ski pass, enabling access from both the Slovenian (Bovec) and Italian (Sella Nevea) sides of the mountain.

Vogel ski centre, in the heart of the Triglav National Park, also offers breathtaking views, down to the Bohinj valley with its spectacular glacial lake and across to the surrounding mountains, reigned over by the symbol of Slovenia and the highest mountain in the country, Triglav (2,864m). After reaching the plateau by cable car, the snowy landscape of Vogel seems like a fairytale setting, which offers more than just opportunities for active holidays. This is the kingdom of the Goldenhorn (Zlatorog, the golden-horned ibex)and its herds, and you can always find something magical here, be it freshly made local cheese or legends and stories by the fire. During sunny skiing days the slopes awaken your active spirit, while the snow beach is set for relaxation.

Both ski centres encourage visitors to try some of the most exciting winter adventures: off-piste ski touring with guides, winter paragliding, and snow tubing. Soon the other ski resorts in Slovenia will open. The atmosphere of fresh snow will fill Slovenian towns and the romantic winter fairytale will make everybody playful.
