Ljubljana will host the UEFA futsal EURO 2018

In February, Ljubljana will host the UEFA futsal EURO 2018, one of the biggest sports events in Slovenia next year. The European Championship in this variety of association football played on a hard court, smaller than a football pitch in classical football, will mainly take place at the biggest Slovenian stadium, the Stožice Stadium, under the auspices of the Football Association of Slovenia, which is proud to have been entrusted the organisation of EURO 2018 futsal.

The Football Association of Slovenia would like to organize this event at a top quality level to even exceed the quality level of EURO futsal 2016 which took place in Belgrade and was held at the highest organisational level in the history of championships in this sport. UEFA Futsal EURO 2018 was officially opened with the event "One Year to Go", where the Slovenian organiser presented the ambassadors of the Championship and launched the official website. 

The former football celebrity of Crvena Zvezda, Lazzio, and Inter, Dejan Stanković, who was ambassador of the UEFA Futsal EURO 2016, passed on ambassadorship to Milenko Ačimovič, a member of the golden Slovenian football national team, and to the first Slovenian futsal professional, Milivoje Simeunović. Football players from all over the world have a special attitude towards futsal, because they started their careers with this very type of football.

For the Slovenian futsal team under manager Andrej Dobovišnik, who has gone through more than 150 football matches and who has led the national team for more than 10 years, this will be the fifth consecutive championship and overall the sixth championship; the Slovenian team achieved its best result at the Championship in Belgium in 2014, where they made it through to the quarterfinals. From 30 January onwards any information on UEFA Futsal EURO 2018 can also be found on the website and on the official profiles on the social networks Twitter and Facebook.
