Discover tradition at the Idrija žlikrof Festival
“The 2017 Idrija Žlikrof Festival will send this traditional miners’ delicacy into a world of modern flavours, giving it an interesting new twist,” announced the organisers of the culinary festival. To spice up the event even more the Alpine Town of the Year Association will also celebrate its 20th anniversary. Explore Idrija’s tradition on 26th August.

Idrija is famous for its rich heritage, comprising a mercury mine, Idrija lace and delicious Idrija žlikrofi. The oldest mining town in Slovenia is on the UNESCO World Heritage List. The town is also famous for its traditional Idrija žlikrofi - small boiled dumplings made of a soft pasta dough stuffed with potato, onions, fat and spices. They are a typical dish which came to Idrija through the miners at the start of the 20th century. Each year, the town of Idrija organises the Idrija Žlikrofi Festival.
Don’t miss the culinary festival on Saturday, 26th August, starting at 11am. The town’s main street will be filled with stands where you can taste different little dumplings shaped like Napoleon’s hat, buy local products and just relax.
This year the event is also a celebration of the 20th anniversary of the Alpine Town of the Year Association. Idrija was a proud holder of the title in 2011.
