Slovenian spas for top athlete preparation

The tranquil setting of the spas, their own sports grounds and halls and the outstanding support infrastructure offer ideal conditions for successful training and sports preparation. The quality and variety of services at Slovenia’s natural spas and health resorts can be attested to by many sports people and teams that come to the slopes of the Pohorje forests to stay at Terme Zreče in the east of Slovenia and to Terme Čatež and its vineyard hills in the south.

Nestling in the Pohorje forest is Terme Zreče, which is famous for its wellness programmes featuring peat masks and other natural riches from the millennia-old peat bog. Nearby are the Olympic Centre and Rogla climate resort, which is regarded as one of the best mid-mountain tourist centres for active preparation of top athletes. It lies at an altitude of 1517m above sea level among spruce forests. It has hosted numerous European, world and Olympic champions who regularly return here to train at Terme Zreče and Rogla. Sports people can train on the football pitch surrounded by a tartan running track, on the artificial grass football pitch, in the multi-purpose sports hall, the fitness centre or on the climbing wall. Top services, infrastructure and trained staff offer the ideal mix for the best preparation for the new season or for motivation while strengthening team spirit among sports teams.

In 2017 Terme Čatež remains the only European location where at the end of July for the second year running there will be the international youth camp of Crvena zvezda (Red Star Belgrade), the successful and legendary Serbian football club. The pleasant setting, its own football pitch, multi-purpose sports hall, athletic stadium, sports halls and additional football pitch nearby with all the necessary infrastructure ensure the best conditions for successful training and sports preparation. Sports people are also cared for by trained healthcare staff through special programmes intended for rehabilitation from injury. This is provided under the leadership of Khalid Nasif, the acclaimed national team kinesiotherapist. The major acquisition of the last few years has been the state-of-the-art apparatus for isokinetic diagnosis, which measures the strength of muscles and muscle groups in the body and additionally helps sports people to achieve outstanding results.
