Traditional Walk along the Wire in Ljubljana and opening of active season
Join an organised hike around the Slovenian capital, Ljubljana, on the first weekend of May (4th to 6th May). The traditional Walk along the Wire celebrates when Ljubljana was freed of the barbed wire during the Second World War. One of the largest sports events in the capital has been held every year since 1957. On Saturday, hikers are joined by joggers in the three-member team run. This event promotes recreation and traditionally opens Ljubljana’s running season.
During the Second World War, Ljubljana was surrounded by barbed wire, and today’s inhabitants are happy to celebrate the anniversary of the capital’s liberation from occupation. Join the celebration from 4th to 6th May in Ljubljana in the traditional Walk along the Wire. The event traditionally starts with children from kindergartens on Thursday and schools on Friday, and reaches a peak on Saturday, when hikers walk a section or the entire route around capital, which is 35 kilometres.
You can also run around Ljubljana. Participate in the three-member team run with two friends or find a team at the event. This run promotes motivation, mutual help and team spirit over 12.5 or 29 kilometres.
