Don’t miss the peak of the winter cheering season at Planica

From 23th-26th March 2017, Planica FIS World Cup Ski Jumping will host the best ski-jumpers in the world. This is the final competition of the season for the Slovenian Eagles, as the national ski jumping team are called. The history of ski jumping in Planica dates back to the 1930s, when the first milestone – a jump over 100m – was achieved. New world records followed and we are all wondering whether we will witness another one in the upcoming days.

Don’t miss the peak of the winter cheering season at Planica

Planica is a picturesque Alpine valley on the edge of the Triglav National Park with a rich tradition of Nordic skiing. This year`s Ski Jumping and Flying World Cup will be held from 23th-26th March. Watch the longest jumps and be part of the unforgettable sports atmosphere. Planica is known as the second largest ski-flying hill in the world, where records are set almost every year. The first time that a human being made a ski jump over 100m was at Planica in 1934, while later, in 1994, the limit of 200m was broken.

The members of the Planica committee have undertaken the organisation of the FIS World Cup Ski Jumping and Flying competitions in the spirit of nurturing a positive influence on the natural and social environment. You can set off to the Planica event in a green way this year: join a sustainable development project and catch a ride to the ski jumping arena by special train or carpool, instead of the stressful drive up the valley!

Recently, Planica opened the renovated modern Nordic centre that includes 7 ski jumps, the Gorišek Brothers ski flying hill which is the second biggest in the world, and a cross-country skiing centre. The centre operates all year around and offers exciting adventures for every visitor: The youngest enjoy the mini adrenaline park and the museum of ski jumping. Enthusiasts of cross-country skiing are able to practise on a covered snow trail that operates from the middle of June until the first snow. Spring has already brought an adrenaline adventure, a zip-line on the Gorišek Brothers ski flying hill.
