Kanin cable car back in operation

The gondola to Slovenia`s highest ski resort Kanin is operating again. The re-opening of the gondola took place on 9th September, when visitors were able to go up to Kanin for free. More than 800 people visited the mountain above Bovec in its first three days of operation. The upper Soča valley is looking forward to the beginning of the ski season.

"I think the re-starting of the gondola at Kanin is a joyous event for the whole Soča valley, the wider Gorizia region and our neighbouring countries. It is an exciting moment for the local people of Bovec and for all those who have been personally involved in this happy event," commented Danijel Krivec, the former mayor of Bovec, who was in charge of the local commission overseeing the repairs. The gondola renovation cost around €5,9 million and the funds were secured partly by the government and partly from the EU.

Kanin is the only Slovenian ski resort above 2,000m. The ski season on Kanin lasts from December to the May Day holidays. The ski resort is distinguished by its sunny position and dry snow, and its magnificent view extends from the heart of the Alps to the Bay of Trieste.
