Hostelling International Slovenia and the Slovenian Tourist Board have been cooperating for many years in the joint promotion of Slovenia, in order to increase the number of young visitors from Japan. Thus Maki and Ryoka, Japanese students, journalists, bloggers and vloggers came to visit Slovenia from 8th to 21st September. They came to prepare a contribution to a magazine with a circulation of 75,000 and a documentary movie for the promotion of youth travel in Slovenia.

"For us this was not only the first visit to Slovenia, but the first visit to Europe in general. People here are very friendly and I like how you can experience culture at every step of the way. Art in Japan is housed only in museums and galleries, but here, it is everywhere,” said 21-year old Maki Kinoshita. They were most impressed by Maribor, Slovenia’s second largest city, the nature and the friendly people.

The documentary will not be the only promotion of Slovenia in Japan. The Slovenian Tourist Board (STB) and the Slovenian tourism industry also attended this year`s JATA Tourism Fair EXPO Japan, 2016, the most important tourism fair in Japan. Green, active and healthy Slovenia was represented at its stand by Slovenian tourist providers, tour agencies and other businesses that are interesting to the Japanese market. The fair took place from 22nd to 25th September; the first two days of the fair were used for business meetings, while the other two were open to the general public.
