Celica Hostel was selected as one of the 10 best luxury hostels in Europe by travel blogger Kash Bhattacharya (Budget Traveller) and the Guardian editorial team. This former prison has become one of the most popular and recognisable hostels in Ljubljana, the European Green Capital 2016. Celica Hostel was designated the Best Hostel in the World in 2006 by Lonely Planet. This year Celica has been awarded the prestigious Gold Travelife certificate for its promotion of sustainable operations in the field of tourism, and has received the Slovenia Green Accommodation certificate.

Hostel Celica is located in Ljubljana, the European Green Capital 2016, close to the railway station. A former prison, the convicts were replaced by artists, who changed the prison cells into rooms for travelers. Today Hostel Celica is one of the best known and most popular hostels in Europe.

In his explanation for the Guardian, Kash Bhattacharya wrote: "It’s hard to think of a better use for an ex-prison than what the team behind Celica Hostel in Slovenia have come up with. After more than a decade of persistence from a group of artists from the city, the prison building, which ceased use in 2001 and was almost demolished by the authorities, was reopened as a hotel, founded on the idea of the potential of creative spirit."

Hostel Celica is located next to the Metelkova city, the heart of alternative culture in Ljubljana. The outdoor venue is perfect for concerts, art performances, exhibitions, or an occasional festival and is considered one of the hottest meeting point in the city.
