Slovenia in the swing of the biggest wine celebrations

Visit the most famous celebrations of wine in Slovenia - on Saint Martin’s day on 11th November!

Wine has a special place in people`s hearts in Slovenia. They show love and devotion to it throughout the whole year, reaching the peak of attention on Saint Martin’s day on 11th November. This day is devoted to the new wine and is known as the day when ‘must’ turns into wine. It is accompanied by celebrations in honour of the harvest and the hard work of winemakers, called Martinovanje. Visit the most famous celebrations of wine in Slovenia!

Start with the largest St. Martin`s Day Celebration in Slovenia. It is held in Maribor in front of the Old Vine house, which is the home of the oldest vine in the world. Join the ceremonial christening of the must on 11th November, before it turns to wine. Taste the traditional local dishes and treat yourself to a wine-tasting of fine Slovenian wines. Pay symbolic homage to the abundant harvest in the company of wine queens, members of wine orders and other visitors.

The completion of the hard work in the vineyard and a good harvest are celebrated at St. Martin`s Day Celebration in Brda, the land of invigorating moments, in western Slovenia. It attracts connoisseurs and wine-tasters and lovers of autumn Brda delicacies. Join them at wine-tastings in the cellars of abandoned houses.

In the south-east of Slovenia, don’t miss the St. Martin`s Day Celebration in Dolenjska. Visit Novo Mesto and its 650-year-old history. Take a ride on Rudolf`s raft down the Krka river in the company of the Princess of Cviček, a special wine from the region. Celebrate with the locals and toast with the best Cviček of the season.

You can try the best Slovenian wines at the Slovenian Wine Festival, which will be held in Ljubljana at the Grand Union Hotel on the 25th and 26th November. Along with culinary masterpieces, the festival demonstrates its position as the leading and most visited wine event in Slovenia.
