Slovenia the most successful at preserving the environment

According to the calculations of the London Legatum Institute, Slovenia ranked first on a list of 149 countries when it comes to the preservation of the natural environment.

According to the calculations of the London Legatum Institute, Slovenia ranked first on a list of 149 countries when it comes to the preservation of the natural environment. The index considers various fields such as the economy, business, education, health, safety, personal freedom, social capital, governance, and the preservation and protection of the natural environment.

UK Foundation Thomson Reuters reported on its website that Slovenia was the best in the use of nature to improve the welfare of its people. As the findings of the Institute summarise, our green, active and healthy country ranks at the top thanks to an aggressive environmental policy implemented by the government in the last decade, including the protection of natural environments, both on land and in the sea. Harriet Maltby, the head of policy research in the field of natural environment at the Institute, considered that the creation of natural parks in Slovenia has not only increased the health and happiness of people, but also stimulated the growth of tourism.

The research included 149 countries. The other top ten countries on the list are New Zealand, Norway, Finland, Switzerland, Canada, Australia, Netherlands, Sweden, Denmark and the United Kingdom.
