Festive markets open throughout Slovenia

In December, Slovenian towns transform into idyllic Christmas villages, enriched by festive markets and fairs. This is also a period for gathering with friends and family, when the smell of cinnamon and biscuits brings back pleasant memories. Every day you can choose another festive fairy tale in Slovenia, yet all are connected through lively cultural events, music events, concerts and exquisite traditional food and drink, as well as a varied choice of Christmas gifts.

Come and enjoy the festive atmosphere to welcome the upcoming New Year. Warm yourself with a cup of mulled wine or hot chocolate and dance the night away to a backdrop of concerts in the streets and songs in the squares:

* Ljubljana, European Green Capital 2016, becomes a popular centre for socialising. Take a stroll to the centre of the Slovenian capital, full of festive lights and events starting on 25th November.

* Maribor, Slovenia’s second biggest city, will host a Magic December. The fairy-tale decorations of the squares, streets and courtyards will come alive in a truly festive atmosphere as the lights turn on.

* With Fairy-Tale Land, fairies, elves and snowmen, December will be magical in Celje. Take a magical train ride from Ljubljana, Maribor or Velenje.

* In Portorož, stop in at the Kempinski Palace Hotel, which will host a New Year Market on Fridays and weekends.
