First six months show 2% rise in overnights compared to last year

In the first half of this year, Slovenia was visited by 4% more guests than last year, and compared to the same period last year they generated 2% more overnight stays.

The month of June also contributed positively to the total balance, with 6% more tourist arrivals in that month compared to June last year.

Preliminary data from the Slovenian Statistical Office show that in the month of June 2010, tourist accommodation facilities recorded a total of almost 260,000 tourist arrivals. There were 5% more foreign tourist arrivals, while domestic tourists showed a 7% increase over last year. Tourists generated nearly 768,000 overnights, which is 1% more than in the same period last year.

Preliminary statistics for the first half of 2010 show a positive trend in Slovenian tourism, with a total of more than 1,188,000 tourist arrivals recorded in tourist accommodation facilities, and close to 3,478,000 overnights. Compared to 2009 this means that the number of overnights in the first six months of this year increased by 2%; the number of overnights by domestic tourists rose by 3%, and the number of foreign tourists by 2%.

In the total for tourist overnights, the month of June 2010 accounted for 55% of overnights by foreign guests. Of this, the highest shares were contributed by tourists from Italy (15%), Germany (15%), Austria (12%), the United Kingdom (7%), Russian Federation (5%) and Netherlands (4%). Croatian tourists accounted for 3%, and those from Japan for 2% of all overnights by foreign guests.

The highest numbers of tourist arrivals in June 2010 were recorded on the coast (25% of all tourist arrivals), and the highest numbers of tourist overnights were at health resorts (32% of all tourist overnights).

Dimitrij Piciga MA, director of the Slovenian Tourist Board: "At the STB we expect this positive trend in Slovenian tourism to continue in the second half of the year. A good start to the tourist season is certainly encouraging, but we are well aware that the tourist season has still not been decided."
